My students need hands-on materials that will motivate and guide them to become the best authors possible, including writing centers, games, and writing folders.

I love my job!
I work with 3rd graders who brighten every day with their sweet smiles. The best part of their hearty laughter is they stay so happy, in spite of what many of them face outside of school. They may come to me from a variety of backgrounds, as our school serves a diverse community. I teach in a Title One school where over 80% of our students qualify for free or reduced price lunch. Many will lack access to many things, and some will come to me struggling with reading and writing.
My Project
This is the first year these students will experience statewide tests. Indiana has also implemented a test that determines if a student will pass or be retained to repeat third grade. The Common Core Language Arts Standards Learning Centers will help all of my students with their literacy skills. The language set helps students identify parts of speech, singular/plural nouns, use apostrophes, and more. The Writing Center focuses on 4 types: research, narrative, opinion, and informative. The Reading Informational Texts Center involves written response that includes identifying facts, main idea and details, and asking and answering questions to demonstrate understanding. The Foundational Skills Learning Center focuses on word work: building words with short/long vowels, using prefixes and suffixes, and reading with appropriate rate and expression.
All children thrive with opportunities that allow them to explore education and share their work in a non-threatening, fun atmosphere.
Whether creating a travel brochure, newspaper, or a classroom biography with the Write and Publish Activity Center, or building writing skills from any of the other centers mentioned above, these materials will build the confidence of my students. Building the confidence of third graders helps them build all of their literacy skills! We need adults entering the workforce who are not only competent but capable of excelling! I want students who love to read and write! Thank you for helping me provide the motivating materials to my students that will help them find their love of reading and writing!
