Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Students in my third-grade class begin school with varied abilities. Math and reading can be challenging to an average student and may seem impossible to a student functioning below grade level. Good attendance and positive attitudes are rewarded and students strive to be AVID leaders of our school. Our school community is supportive and fosters a loving environment. My students are hard workers and strive for excellence!
The more that you read, the more things you will know, the more you learn, the more places you'll go.
-Dr. Seuss
My students are hard working third graders, with a powerful drive to succeed. They have varied abilities and need different levels of support to achieve their goals. My school has an enrollment of 671 students from K through sixth grade. We have a diverse population with a large percentage of English language learners and special education students. The majority of our students are from low socioeconomic backgrounds.
My Project
Because of busy scheduling and all the content that teachers need to squeeze into the day, current events may seem to get lost along the way. Scholastic News would help provide science and social studies support to our already existing curriculum. Scholastic could give my students the chance to dive right into what is going on around the world, in present day.
Third graders need special set aside time throughout the school day to dive into current events.
If I were to get funding for the Scholastic magazines, I would build a current events block into my day. This would be a time for my students to keep up with current happenings and discuss how things affect the world we live in. They would also develop great communication skills in the process.
