This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
In my class there are 25 amazing children who have discovered that reading is one of the greatest adventures around. My students are constantly asking me to buy various book series to add to our classroom library, because the one copy the school library has of these exciting books, seem to be hard to get on library day.
Books are important in this classroom!
We are so thrilled that reading has become such an exciting adventure we've taken. When children beg for time to read, just because they love their book and want to know what's happening next.....well that's a huge success for any teacher. Reading in key and these kids get it.
My Project
A teacher's job is to make their students life long learners and readers. Unfortunately, it isn't the easiest thing to do for every child in a classroom. Many students walk in with the attitude that reading is a waste of time or too hard, so they don't. The key is finding the material that gets their attention and that they can read successfully. With the wide range of interest and reading levels in one classroom, a teacher must pay close attention to what interests his/her students to find the book series that will change the heart of their student, and spark a love for reading.
Books are an invaluable resource.
Teachers try their best to fill their classroom library, with books that will engage their students. But from year to year the popular series change and it tends to get expensive. This is why you will find a various range of books I would like added to our library. So many students love the super hero books and other graphic novels, that my library lacks at this time. Also, there are so many great series the students would love to have access to each day, without having to wait until it's available in the library. My students have required reading they must do every trimester, and it's much easier to complete when they are reading the books they love. If this project is fully funded, I will have students rushing to our classroom library with a smile on their face, to find their next big adventure.
