Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We are a very small school (with big hearts) located within walking distance of Yankee Stadium. We are an early childhood school, made up of about 150 students that are always excited about learning. We have classes of general education, and special education bridge classes.

We have a diverse population of students who are learning to express tolerance through a “Sage” doll-making workshop.

Unfortunately, since we are a small school, our budget suffers. So we are always in need of basic supplies. Teachers at our school spend countless dollars out of their own pocket to organize and teach our students.

We don't have the funding for an art program. This workshop will provide the outlet to explore tolerance and the students’ creativity. Our kids are so enthusiastic to bring all of our hard work to their peers and their parents during our Explorations!!! Fair this May!

My Project

Mr. Bellavia is the author of the book 'We Are All The Same Inside'. He will come to our class and read his book. After the message of tolerance is clear to the students they will then take part in a 2 day doll making workshop where students take the time to express their creativity through art.

We are so very excited to create our very own Sage Doll!

The students explore tolerance and discover through storytelling and art that our differences should be celebrated as we are all the same inside. This is an invaluable lesson for students of all ages as they grow up in an ever changing world.
