Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My third grade dual language students live in an economically disadvantaged community. Ninety-two percent of students from our school come from low income families. All my students are Spanish speakers learning English as their second language. Like every other kid, my students dream of becoming great global citizens with wonderful careers in their future and I believe that every single one of them can.
When I see my students I see all the potential they have to be a very successful citizen of the 21st century.
Even though they are faced with many challenges daily, they are very enthusiastic about learning new things. I admire my students because they are motivated to become a better person and to achieve all their goals.
My Project
"For most students academic learning is too abstract. They need to see, touch and smell what they read and write about." John Goodland said. I believe that science is all about exploring, investigating, and researching using our five senses and all students should have that opportunity. My students need hands-on learning science activities in order to enhance their knowledge.
These science learning activities will grant my students resources to explore, investigate, and research like a real scientist.
They will be able to do hands-on activities for every science topic instead of just reading about it. This will help them gain stronger language skills by learning in a fun and interactive environment. We will use the rock collection to investigate with real rocks, fossils, and minerals and learn more about them. The Science Tools Supply will help us do real investigations using real science tools. With the Learning Science Activity Tubs we will learn about different science topics through hands-on activities.
I believe that all of my students are capable of succeeding in life. I want to teach them that in order to succeed, they need to explore, investigate and research themselves. Please help my students by giving them a chance to experience how it is like to be a real scientist.
