Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I work at a Title 1 school with 98% of students eligible to receive free or reduced priced lunch. Our student population is made up of African American and Latino students, with 50% of students being emerging bilinguals.
Due to severe budget cuts, we are currently struggling to support students with up to date materials to improve literacy.
Teachers at our school currently spend money out of pocket to find appropriate texts with which to meet students at their level. Access to quality books which promote engagement and are appropriately leveled based on student needs and skills are crucial to student success.
Thank you for your consideration in supporting students in need and helping us to reach each student.
My Project
We are seeking leveled texts and instructional materials to help students progress in literacy. Third grade is a crucial year for students because students move from "learning to read" to "reading to learn." This difficult transition requires specialized and differentiated instruction in vocabulary, reading comprehension, grammar, and writing. The leveled library from Lakeshore and the varied instructional texts will help provide grade level instruction on a number of topics which are crucial to understanding and presenting on grade level subject matters.
By helping us to purchase these supplies, we can provide students with texts that meet them where they are and help them grow as readers.
Thank your for helping students grow and teachers teach!
