Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are so excited every day and greet me with the most cheerful hugs and hellos. I love their enthusiasm and perseverance when the learning gets tough.
They are so happy to share their experiences with one another and they are working on listening with their eyes, ears and hearts.
They really step up to the plate. One day, during our class meeting, a student shared some very difficult feelings. This group of third graders listened so respectfully and with empathy, then shared their ideas about a solution.
I was in awe and amazed at their kindness and the way they took the situation seriously. They also work so hard every day and I feel so lucky to be sharing this year with them.
In class, I use songs often for transitions and from the very first day of school, they sang with all their hearts. They are willing to jump into every activity with energy which creates a pretty exciting classroom.
My Project
Young children need motivating materials along with motivated teaching. They respond with excitement to color, design, and presentation which helps translate their motivation to the learning activity.
My students will each have their own colorful, personal writing journal which will really instill pride in their writing and make them excited to learn to write narratives, informational text and opinion pieces.
The journals are a guide through the writing genres and students will love to show off their writing.
This project also includes personal poetry journals for each student and a story writing center. Third graders love exploring all genres of writing and I want to use these materials to help their exploration.
