Third Grade has Begun with Some Yummy Fun!

Help me give my students fun beginning of the year project supplies to start their third grade year off right!

My Project

The start of the school year can be such an emotional time - excitement and anxious wonderings fill the students' minds. I like to start the year off with many fun, inviting, and YUMMY activities to get the students talking with their classmates and excited about the year ahead of them.

These activities involve: problem solving, following directions and collaborating with peers.

For example, the worms in mud activity involves following a list of directions to create a gummy worm in a garden (pudding and crushed Oreos) that the students work together with a peer to create totally on their own.

Another activity is called Save Fred. This is a problem solving activity that involves trying to free a gummy worm who has been stuck under his boat (a cup) by putting a life savor (a gummy life savor) around him and getting him to the top of the cup. However, it has to be done without touching anything with their hands. The students are given two paperclips to use. They must plan, map out, and execute their plan with a partner. These are just two of the first weeks of third grade activities that we do. The students love them!
