My students need a Chromebook, a wired computer mouse, and a set of headphones to work on scientific research and collect historical information about the great state of Louisiana!
I teach science and social studies and sponsor our Robotics team, at an elementary school in North Louisiana that serves approximately 750 students. Our English Language Learning group comes from homes that speak one of nine different languages. Our students work hard every year in their academics which leads us to be classified by the state as an "A" school! Our students also work hard to provide resources to people in our community that are in need. We are lucky to have such kind, caring, empathetic children that are focused on becoming the best they can be. Our school is also proud to serve military families and children of Barksdale Air Force Base. These children help diversify our population, even more, bringing knowledge, cultures, and information about communities their families have been stationed at and served.
My Project
I am a new to third grade teacher, who has previously taught fourth and fifth grade. These sweet ones that I teach are amazingly inquisitive and are so excited to be in a "big kid" grade. This is the first year they will state test, and many are nervous about that, but it is my hope that through my teaching they will gain the confidence and knowledge they need to be successful in not only that, but all aspects of their lives.
Education is changing, I want my kids to be up to date and able to stay up with the technological advances they will encounter, no matter their socioeconomic background.
I can already see the gleam of some future scientists, doctors, teachers, and engineers in their eyes as they question and encounter the world around them. Our school and district are both making a huge push to incorporate STEM and STEAM learning in our classrooms. This Chromebook will make it so easy for us to meet the criteria for the technology part of STEM! Having a Chromebook in our classroom will expand this classroom and give them access to resources that otherwise they would not have. I cannot wait to see how far they advance through the use of both traditional and technological means of teaching. I see nothing but amazing things in their future and hope to very soon say that I have a classroom set of Chromebooks available for all of my super learners!
