Great theater is about challenging how we think and encouraging us to fantasize about a world we aspire to.
-Willem Dafoe. Our typical day is in the classroom and this grant could give us a chance to venture out into the world of theater and bring our learning back to our school community.
I teach in one of the most diverse schools in the world.
My students are from America, Korea, Russia, Mexico, Mongolia, India, .... My students are both low income and middle class. The range of experiences, language, and knowledge is so vast. How do we both inspire the students to individually grow, while simultaneously inspire the students to feel unified? Building common experiences and having opportunities for creative artistic expression is our common denominator.
My Project
Imagine seeing live theater for the first time in your life. It is an unforgettable experience and for some of the students it will be a unique opportunity that they will unfortunately not be given again. This is a chance to expand their awareness of theater. Theater always tells a story that inspires reading, writing, speaking, and creating. The stories are filled with twists and turns that allow us to become introspective of our own behaviors and of the morality around us. Students will be able to perform their own plays after our shared experience to a live performance.
Your donation will not only help my class, but 3 second grade classes will be attending the performance and the costumes will be used grade level wide.
Concepts of justice, critical thinking, questioning techniques, will all be a result of costumes and the shared experience of live theater.
