Before this resource arrived, meeting with students in meaningful, focused groups was often challenging. We relied on desks pushed together or small floor spaces, which made it difficult for students to sit comfortably and for me to give each child the individualized attention they needed. With the new kidney table, our small-group instruction has transformed—becoming more intentional, more organized, and far more effective.\r\n\r\nI use the kidney table daily for guided reading, math intervention groups, writing conferences, and even social-emotional check-ins. The semicircle shape allows every student to have direct eye contact with me without feeling crowded, which has noticeably increased their engagement. Because I can sit in the center, moving between students is easier, and I can monitor their work closely. This arrangement helps create a supportive, focused environment where students feel safe asking questions, taking risks, and trying new strategies.\r\n\r\nOne specific moment that shows the table's impact happened during a recent small-group reading lesson. I was working with a group of students who are developing confidence in decoding multisyllabic words. Using whiteboards and magnetic letters, we practiced breaking down challenging vocabulary. For the first time this year, I saw all five students leaning in at once—collaborating, helping each other blend sounds, and celebrating each success. The kidney table allowed us to spread out materials while still staying close enough for meaningful discussion. One student, who often hesitates to participate in whole-class settings, proudly read an entire paragraph aloud to the group. The layout supported her confidence in a way our previous setup had not.\r\n\r\nThe students' initial reaction to seeing the new table was priceless. Several gasped, a few cheered, and one student said, \"It looks like a real teacher table from the videos we watch!\" They instantly recognized that this table was meant for special, focused learning time. Many asked when they would get their first chance to sit there, and some even offered to help organize the space around it so we could start using it right away. Their excitement showed not only appreciation for something new but also motivation to engage more fully in our small-group lessons.\r\n\r\nWith this new resource in place, our next steps as a class involve expanding our small-group rotations to include more targeted skill-building activities. In reading, students will begin participating in strategy-focused groups tailored to their needs—whether that means fluency practice, comprehension discussions, or vocabulary development. In math, the table will be used for hands-on learning with manipulatives as we dive into multi-digit operations and fractions. I am also planning a collaborative writing project in which students will rotate through the kidney table for revision and peer-editing workshops. The comfortable, structured setup will help them receive feedback and strengthen their writing in a supportive setting.\r\n\r\nOverall, this kidney table has become a central hub for connection, learning, and growth. It has already elevated the quality of our instruction, and it will continue to support my students as they build confidence and master new skills throughout the year. I'm deeply grateful for this resource—and for the donors who made this level of learning possible in our classroom.","fullyFundedDate":1756341848557,"projectUrl":"project/group-table/9607400/","projectTitle":"Group Table","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Davis","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-5_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10181169"},{"teacherId":336923,"projectId":9356597,"letterContent":"Thank you for your immense generosity and support of this project.
