My Students

Our small school district is in a rural area that is comprised of students from area small towns. I have the honor of working in a K-12 media center. Many of our students come from low-income households with our county ranking as the poorest county in the state of Wisconsin. Our students are eager to learn and to show their creative imagination. Our elementary students enjoy using hands-on materials to engage in critical thinking problems and to build different items.

My Project

By having a LEGO wall and LEGOS students will have the opportunity to build and use imaginative thinking with their creations. With hands-on experiences students will have the chance to work in collaborative learning groups or be able to work on their own. By exposing students to STEM type activities and exploration, students may develop a passion for it, which may lead to a future job opportunity.

After story time, students will occasionally be asked to build/create an item in response to the literature that was read to them.

This will encourage students to express their creativity and reach learners in a different avenue versus paper and pencil responses.
