I teach Kindergarten in a Title I school. My Kindergarteners are active learners who don't always have access to the materials they need. Many of my students do not get the opportunity to use technology at home. I want to give my students as many opportunities as I can. This will enable them to be successful in all that they do. My goal is for each of my students to make significant growth in all subject areas and gain experiences they wouldn't otherwise have.
My Project
STEAM allows for students to think creatively while incorporating purposeful play in the areas of science, technology, engineering, art, and math.
We need some engineering manipulatives - LEGO brick box, Magformers Vehicle set, Brainplates disc set - and books including If I Built a Car, If I Built a House and more, to help get us started with our STEAM bins.
These manipulatives will help students to visualize concepts like counting, patterns , and measurement and would better promote the experience part of learning. They will also help improve problem solving skills, help develop cause and effect as will as cooperative learning skills. The bins will be used for early finishers and during Literacy and Math stations. Each bin will include various building materials.
These hands-on experiments will help develop their problem solving as well as their critical thinking skills.This will help us to include science, art, and technology in everything we do. STEAM provides so many benefits to all types of learners. With your support my students will be able to master standards and have fun doing it.
