Ally and Emily are designing one of the many stations for our middle school's "makerspace" room. The girls are so excited to finally have a space where students can use their imagination and think outside of the "block."
Both girls started by researching the various types of hands-on activities that would appeal to other students. During the research process, both girls reflected on what they enjoyed most growing up. As they stumbled upon "Legos," it became clear as to what their project would focus on.
The Lego Wall would potentially help students think for themselves and build their imagination. In addition to thinking outside the box, the student could gain necessary information that is outside of the state curriculum. The building wall can help students master problem-solving and lead them to an occupational interest in building.
In Their Own Words
Our project idea is a Lego wall. The goal we are trying to accomplish is to help our classmates express their imagination, and could potentially drive them to pursue careers in the building field (architect, contractor, engineer, etc.).
After researching our Lego wall idea, we measured our designated area and brainstormed ideas on how we were going to make our project happen. We laid out thoughts on what our finished product was going to look like from a design standpoint. All that is left now is for us to get Legos and build!
It will give our classmates an outlet outside of our core classes to build anything they can imagine. Our building board can teach us important lessons outside of our standardized tests. We think this will be an awesome addition to our school and the way we learn.
