This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Chicago Public Schools are full to the brim with students waiting to change the world for the better. Students in my classroom are exactly that, students that are deeply engaged with the world around them. At our school most of our students are low income and a third are English Learners.

Our students are most impacted by the current political climate and are intensely impacted by information in the media and discussions in their community.

Together we are building a welcoming classroom where we can have critical dialogue, debates, and discussion. A space where we can unpack the world around us and make sense of these rapid changes together.

My Project

Critical thinking skills are the building blocks for reading and writing the world around us! These curriculum materials, classroom supplies, and texts will engage students in the practice of sourcing, contextualizing, corroborating, and close reading historical sources to generate meaning about our past and our future.

My students LOVE diving deep into the past, making sense of primary and secondary sources, sharing their voices and opinions about how the past shapes our present.

With these materials I hope to capture student's imaginations and facilitate their connections with their own histories, the history of our city, and the history of the United States through a lens of justice, equity, and healing.
