Thinking Like a Scientist

Help me give my students materials for hands-on science learning to build curiosity.

My Students

In my classroom, I see about 500 students a week, grades K through 4. These students come from low-income neighborhoods. I teach a specials class called "Content Literacy." The students I see are diligent, avid learners, and they are curious. I work with students with diverse backgrounds, experiences, and skill sets. Many of the students are English language learners who are learning the language and using this foundation to understand the topics we are working on.

Students explore topics that pertain to health, social studies, and science.

They are exploring new material throughout the school year. Aside from learning the material, my ultimate goal is for students to feel comfortable working in small-group settings, build character education, and cooperatively work together.

"All students can learn and achieve at high levels if given adequate time and appropriate resources and materials." -Child Up Early Learning.

Having appropriate resources provides many benefits. Students are able to use the materials to further their learning. Students are able to access content that they may have not been able to do otherwise. Manipulatives can help tactile and visual learners.

Thank you for your support. You are helping make an impact on their learning!

My Project

These materials will be utilized in the classroom to build on science learning and engagement. Students will be able to used their senses to learn about sound, engineering, life cycles, and incorporate art. With these resources I will be able to incorporate cross-curriculum learning, like art, music, and engineering.

Students do not often get opportunities to learn about science in the classroom through hands-on projects and activities.

My hope is that science leave the class with a yearning to learn more about science, the world around them, and share what they learn with others.
