Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I would love to purchase a composition notebook and a good pen, like the G2 fine point pen (144 pack and a 12 pack), for each of my 160+ students.
I love my students and the diversity, energy, and stories they fill my classroom with.
My school serves a community that has 73% of students receiving free or reduced-rate lunch, and 83% are students of color. The majority of my students are first and second-generation students who come from Latino communities. What I love most about my students is the opportunity for learning they bring to the table--they truly are thirsty for language.
My students respond to a teacher who gives them feedback, listens, and greets them with a little joy each morning. Many of them have huge life obstacles often to do with poverty, and Covid-19 seemed to exaggerate many of these issues. However, despite their circumstance, they still come to class ready to engage in the learning process. This is why I would like to provide each of my students with a journal to write in and a good pen to write with. These tools, although simple, give my students the opportunity to learn language through authentic expression and continuous feedback.
