Due to Covid-19, many students were stuck at home; detached from friends and learning; and often forced to work, babysit, and help manage a household. These changes were on top of many of the traumas my students come to school with each day. We as educators have been diligently working to provide spaces of wellness for students, and in the ELA classroom, I would like those spaces to be journals. I plan to use these journals to help students reflect on their lives, trauma, and to help build SEL space in the classroom. We will be doing daily journal writes, as well as writings at home for students that are excluded OR SICK.
