it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Do you remember the joy you felt as a child when you played games that were both challenging and fun? My Gifted Program students are beginning to discover that joy through Chess and other challenging games which will help develop their logic and mathematic skills while socially interacting.
My students come from 2 schools to our Gifted center in Florida which is in a low socioeconomic area.
They are highly capable learners that need some motivational activities to help challenge them. Many of the students get bored in the general education setting and come to Gifted once a week. They expect to be involved with materials, resources and hands-on projects. Most of my students have not even played Chess. These Schools have not had a consistent Gifted teacher or program for the past 3 years. When I arrived this year to be their Gifted teacher, I was shocked at the lack of materials at both schools. These are some of the brightest kids in our schools, and they do not have the things they need to be challenged. Our schools are focused on standardized state test scores.
My Project
With these game sets and incentives, the students will be motivated to do better. My students will learn logical math skills, strategies, and thinking techniques. We do not have any games at all for our Gifted students! By purchasing thinking and Math games, my Gifted students will be able to play each other, build Math, thinking, and social skills.
Furthermore, our Gifted students will feel like they are "I'm an actual Gifted program", as opposed to the lack of consistency they've had for the past 3 years. I'm the third gifted teacher they've had this year alone! I've taught Gifted for the past 8 years at a similar low income school. Now, I am shared between two schools and there really is a need for many materials for these gifted students.
Many of my students have never even played chess or QWIRKLE or RUSH HOUR games!
It would be such a great experience for them to learn how to play these challenging games in Gifted class. Bright Minds need bright hands-on learning tools! By having these new games, my students will be able to sharpen their bright minds and build excitement and rigor in the Gifted program.
