I am requesting a wide variety of gratitude journals for my students as they complete their last year of elementary school. One journal doesn’t fit all students, so for the journals I’m requesting, I have specific students in mind for each one.
All year long we have been working on: Honor, Dream, Just Try, Trust, Achieve & Inspire…these are our class rules.
Were as some students, parents, and/or teachers are counting down the days until summer vacation begins, I want it to continue— I desire more time with them, there’s so many more ways we can grow—I just need a little more time.
My students and I have been writing letters back and forth to each other in their journals since August. They share their dreams, problems, ideas, fears and hopes.
Once summer begins, we won’t have the access to keep that going. This is where the gratitude journals come in. We can finish out the last few weeks of school with them reflecting and journaling to themselves and hopefully continue this process through the summer until they venture into middle school in the fall. It’s such a wonderful exercise in their mental health, self-discovery, and growth, which can continue throughout their lifetime.
My multi-color pens are an homage to my dad—I’ve always loved the multi-color interchangeable ink pens, and journaling will be a bit more fun with more colors.
