"The more you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go." It is vital that our children are provided endless opportunities to be exposed to literature. It lays the groundwork for so much more in their future, and builds confidence, creativity and imagination
My students are my heart.
They are brilliant, outgoing, caring and thoughtful little people! They have so much to offer but many of them are lack adequate resources that so many other children are provided. The students we serve come from impoverished families, foster care system, are homeless, come from single parent families, or are living with family members other than their parents. Our school's goal is to provide the most effective and sufficient education that these children deserve while working closely to provide resources for families in crisis or need.
Because it is not feasible to ask these families for donations for our classrooms, it becomes very tough to have the appropriate and well-deserved supplies and materials for our children. This is where members of our community have the opportunity to show their support. It also lets our children and families know the true value of education; that complete strangers are willing to be the ones who make a difference!
My Project
Students will use the listening center and books/audio in a variety of ways. They love the technology! Being able to use the headphones is the first thing that would peek their interest. Many of them are eager to begin reading. This provides the experience of reading "on their own". It will teach them basic functions of print, such as reading from left to right and top to bottom. It will also help them understand basic book knowledge, such as front covers, back covers, turning pages, authors and illustrators. Books on tape also provide another avenue for children to be exposed to language which, in turn, expands and improves their vocabulary. Providing this experience is also a wonderful way to increase the independence and boost self-confidence in young children!
This project will make a huge difference in the lives our children.
Many of the students served here aren't read to at home and may not own books at home. This exposure to language and literature is something that may be brand new to them. With the support and encouragement of our community and others around us, we can begin sending the message that education is valuable and necessary!
