My Students

"We got grit, we don't quit! "We love challenges!" These are some of the words my Kindergarteners would say every time I add rigor to their work. These epiphanies bring smiles to their faces and a sense of accomplishment to their school day.

My students are independent learners who believe they will succeed even if the work is hard.

My school is culturally and linguistically diverse. It is a Title l low-income school, where 71% of the population receives free and reduced-priced meals. I am teaching students of color and about half of them are emergent bilinguals who are receiving ELL services. My students enjoy exploring the culture of their friends which make our classroom a kind and caring community.

Despite the challenges my students are facing in their lives, I am proud of their motivation to learn. My goal is to provide them a supportive learning environment and an equitable classroom by making sure they have what they need to be successful in Kindergarten.

My Project

These materials are great for teaching number sense, math games, and imaginative play. Magna-tiles are versatile tools for students to use in sorting, identifying basic shapes, and building 3D structures. I also plan to use them in our imaginative center to encourage creativity. I will use the hands-on number grid for counting in several ways. It will be a great tool for independent practice. These sturdy cubes will make it easier for students to recognize, understand, and manipulate numbers by giving them tangible tools they can actually count on.

These math manipulatives are terrific and fun tools to learn math concepts!

Think about the students you are helping by providing these materials, as they develop their skills in counting and cardinality, operations and algebraic thinking, and number and operations in base 10.
