My Students

My students are in a low-income area. Their parents work a lot in order to support them. It is difficult for parents to take time off to be in the school volunteering. These students face struggles such as lack of food and basic necessities, yet they are so resilient. I grew up in this community and faced many of the same challenges that my students face every day. I chose to teach here with the hopes of inspiring at least one child. The students at our school have so much potential!

Each year, my students love to help each other succeed, and they assist me in creating a classroom that cares!

I am in awe of the things they do to help each other daily.

The students at this school are becoming very excellent at technology and they are always teaching me new things. Our school now has 1:1 technology and the students are loving it. They are taking ownership of their learning through their data books and are reaching new heights all the time.

My Project

I have added many items that don't necessarily go together. We are working on planting Shasta Daisies for our grown ups as well as Milkweed for our school garden to learn about plants as well as Monarch Butterflies. Last year I taught my students about Monarchs and we were able to end the unit with a painting of the butterfly that they all loved.

I believe that students learn best from hands on experiences, planting the flowers and Milkweed will teach the students about plant cycles as well as the butterfly life cycle.

I have also included basic school supplies that I have discovered I didn't have enough of. I am hoping that the Cricut mat and t-shirt guide will help with my T-shirt project. Most of the markers and glue in my classroom have dried out and my students need more in order to be prepared each day.

I am excited to implement these projects and allow my students to have the items that they need to learn. I am also excited to use these items to teach my students science concepts as well as connect to art.
