Help me give my students toys, building blocks, play food, and other supplies for promised reinforcers for participating in practice lessons prior to my surgery!
Unfortunately, I am scheduled at the most inconvenient time of the school year to have surgery, thus leaving my students in the care of a long-term substitute. I teach students with emotional/behavioral disorders in grades K-2 who WANT to learn. I had them participate in various types of virtual lesson trials I could use in my Google Classroom while on leave as I have to still prepare the plans for my absence. One of the trials included the potential opportunity to earn a gift code, and we actually did! They were so excited and are so deserving!
I promised my students if they tried their hardest on these trials AND if we were chosen (for motivation), that THEY could select the items they wanted most in our classroom.
I was surprised and excited to see that collectively they all WANTED to learn money skills!
For the first half of the school year, they have really enjoyed using various Melissa & Doug food sets to "order" from one another during social skills lessons, and I am hoping to use this as an opportunity to embed the instruction of money into the activity.
Additionally, we can always use extra magnetic tiles for sensory fidgets, which all of my students enjoy. Also, a single Beyblade top was an item used as a behavioral reinforcer for one student, and it was so effective that now multiple students are requesting them. I would love to have a class set in order to attempt the same achievement of behavioral goals, in turn increasing their overall academic success.
