These Too Are the Seeds From Which Writers Will Grow

My students need several children's books, chair socks, and dry erase markers to help them develop as writers.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Students learn to become writers by studying what other writers do. They also need a quite room in which to write. The materials I am requesting meet both these needs.

I teach at a very diverse Title 1 school.

This year, I have 18 third graders and 6 second graders in my classroom. My students are Latino, African American, and Asian/Pacific Islander. Ten of my students are English learners. They are all hard workers and extremely eager to learn.

My Project

The books I am requesting will provide the spark for stories which my students will tell. Upon hearing these great books, they will remember their own stories and choose from these which to write. These books will also serve as mentor texts. We will examine each as a class, analyzing the qualities with make each a great piece of writing. My students will then use these books as models to improve their own writing. The ball socks will allow my students to move their chairs without making noise. Writers need quiet time to write. The ball socks will help us create such conditions in our classroom. The dry erase markers will make it possible for me to write directions on our whiteboard that will guide students during Writers Workshop time and throughout the rest of the day.

Your donations will help provide some wonderful books and some important tools which my students will use on a daily basis to improve their writing skills.

I thank you in advance for your generosity!
