My Students
My class is full of energetic third graders with a zest for learning. I have students with ADHD who feel the need to move constantly. Even those children without ADHD can't sit still for very long. Because of this, my room is a place to learn by moving.
We sing, dance, and make up gestures to go with what we are learning.
For example, we use "air punctuation" to show capitals and punctuation in a sentence. Brain breaks and movement are a regular part of our day. When my students get a chance to move they are able to concentrate better and get more work finished.
My Project
Although we get up and move as much as possible, there are times that students need to complete seat work. These wiggle seats and under the desk bikes will keep my students moving when they need to. They will allow them to be able to stay at their seats longer and complete assignments at their seats when getting up and moving isn't an option. The stand up desks will give them the option to stand when they have sat too long. Giving the students a choice of what makes them the most comfortable will help them take ownership of their learning.
