Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

We may be biased - but we believe we have the best kids around! Our school serves about 500 Kindergarten through 5th grade students. Throughout the year we try to provide as many resources to our families as possible. One of the items we have found that students frequently need are new pairs of shoes.

One of the best parts of the school day (just ask any kid) is recess - and having comfortable shoes that fit perfectly is the key to a three pointer in basketball, a smooth soccer goal, the perfect trip down the slide, or winning that game of tag!

We've found that because sneakers tend to be more expensive than other items of clothing, many of our students are wearing shoes that are either too small or make running and playing challenging (such as flip flops). One of our afterschool enrichment programs is "Girls on the Run" and many of our girls are attending practice in crocs or shoes that could injure their feet if they run frequently in them.

With your help, we'd love to build a collection of well-made sneakers in common kid sizes as part of our clothing closet. This will allow us to provide sneakers to students to keep their feet healthy, run and play with their friends, and build healthy habits throughout elementary school.
