Mrs. Clarke from Seattle WA is requesting musical instruments through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.

These Orcas Want to Play the Ukulele!

My students need ukuleles to enhance our learning environment. Listening to music is good, playing an instrument is even better! Music can change our mood, get us motivated, and help us concentrate.

My Students

I work with a group of fourth and fifth graders who are eager to learn and grow together in our learning community.

Students are striving to do their best and be the best learners that they can be.

This group of students has wonderful work stamina and can work on projects at their individual pace. This is a great trait for students to be able to self-pace and be a leader in directing their own learning.

We are seeking to grow as musicians!

My Project

My school does not currently have a music program. Some students are able to take music lessons through the school district, but the cost of an instrument and time and space for routine practice limits some families from participating.

There are many benefits to learning a musical instrument!

Music can support mathematicians and scientists, educate young historians, and inspire young writers. Music can help facilitate learning and enhance skills. Music can help students become energized, focused, and inspired.

Students will explore elements of music including melody, harmony, rhythm, form, tempo, dynamics, and tone. We will work on singing, picking, strumming, ear training, sight-reading, improvising, music theory, harmonizing, arranging, and more.

I have played the piano all of my life and find so much joy in learning and playing music. I want to open music learning to all students in my classroom by teaching students how to play the ukulele. Why the ukulele? With a couple chords, students can play many, many songs. This is an instrument that is fun from day one!

Thank you for your support and consideration!
