Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Do you recall childhood outings to a museum or cultural fair with family? What about summer vacations or a day at an amusement park? Aside from creating wonderful memories, they provided meaningful experiences that enriched your knowledge base. I'd like to provide those experiences for my students.

My students are hard-working, fun, creative, brilliant Kindergartners, who try so hard to do so well.

My students are English language learners and socioeconomically disadvantaged. I'm collaborating with a Pre-Kindergarten teacher for this field trip. She has 2 classes of 18 4-year-old's motivated to learn about everything! Primarily English language learners, her students receive instruction in language arts, math, science, & social studies. We are a 100% free lunch school. The children are growing up in hard times. The standards of education are so much higher than when we were in school, and yet their opportunities are more limited than ours. Work obligations, transportation issues, and financial challenges are all barriers that prevent our students' parents from providing the kinds of childhood experiences many of us cherished. School field trips were once a staple of public education, but are now considered a frivolous luxury and were eliminated from our school's budget.

My Project

The Kidspace Children's Museum offers indoor exhibits and outdoor learning environments. Inside, students may visit the Digging Deeper Gallery to investigate earthquakes, bugs, rocks, and fossils. They can also attempt physical challenges at The Climbing Towers. There are more climbing activities outside, including the Strata Wall & Spider Climber. Trike Tracks and Water Play are two more outside areas the children can explore and enjoy. Kidspace also maintains a series of gardens connected by a path that is perfect for a nature walk to observe the plants and insects.

I am trying to earn a field trip to Kidspace Museum in Pasadena, California.

The creative environments at the Kidspace Children's Museum inspire learning through self-directed, interactive experiences and play in the arts, sciences, and humanities that are ideal for Pre-K and Kindergarten students. Their emphasis on investigation and exploration of nature combined with outlets for creative expression make this an optimal venue for our young learners.
