Do you remember reading your favorite book from elementary school? If you are anything like my students you read it over and over and over again until the pages are falling apart. That's the case for some of our most popular boys books in the library.
My second and third grade students have recently become engrossed in beginning chapter books, like the ones requested in this project.
They are high-energetic students who are reading avidly here at school and at home. They come from a wide variety of backgrounds, but nearly 95% of my students live below the poverty line and live through difficult circumstances. They use the school library and its books as a safe haven to escape reality and jump into a world all their own.
My Project
This project will benefit all chapter book readers at our school, but these books will particularly appeal to boys. My second and third grade boys have recently gotten addicted to Captain Underpants books. Once one boy finishes a book, he recommends it to another friend, who then subsequently checks out that same book. These books do not stay on the shelves because they are constantly being read.
But, by being read over and over, they are also becoming worn-out. The books that you will help fund in this project will replace those falling-apart books with brand new copies for the students to continue reading for years to come.
With these replacement copies of these highly-popular beginning chapter books, my students will be able to continue reading some of the most popular literature out there.
Friends will still be able to recommend books to their friends, without fear of that book having to spend long nights in our library's "book hospital." Please help rescue these books to keep my students reading!
