Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The children will be checking these books out from my school library. The school caters to kids from 5 to 15. It is located in a poor, inner-city part of Florida.
Our lowest circulation figures are for the middle-schoolers. We desperately need to motivate these kids to read.
There are two book series that the kids - even those who don't read that much - constantly ask me for. These series are 'Twilight' and 'Naruto'. I'm sure you've heard about the phenomenal popularity of the 'Twilight' series. Everyone is asking for it, but we don't have ANY copies! We have 10 'Naruto' books in the library. They are constantly in demand. I have one kid who RUNS into the library each morning to see if any have been returned. We could get MANY more 'Naruto' books, and I'm sure they'd all STILL be always checked out.
It is very difficult to motivate middle schoolers to read. Help us purchase books that we KNOW will fly off the shelves. In addition, by buying books for a library, you'll be helping not just one class, but hundreds of children over the years!
