Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I am a 3rd-5th resource special education resource teacher and I work with high-needs students. Students that come to my room are significantly behind in at least one subject sometimes more. They need intensive support through small groups and hands-on learning opportunities.
Of all the students in our school, 97% are from low-income households and 95% of them are minorities.
We are an inner-city Chicago school that every year has the privilege to serve many refugee students who are first coming to the United States to escape hardships and danger in their home countries.
Despite the range of backgrounds, our students come from, they are excited and eager to learn when they come to school every day!
Each year we use a variety of materials to support student learning. Many items are used by students throughout the day to support their learning. Eventually, some of those items need to be replaced.
Crayons, pencils, and dry-erase makers oh my! These items are frequently used and worn out by the students. We are in need of more new crayons, pencils, and dry-erase markers to start the year off right!
New printer ink, laminating sheets, and anchor chart paper will allow me to create and prepare materials to support their learning. My students benefit from multiple approaches to support their growth and having eyewords sight words will help give them another way to practice their reading.
