Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students can't be put in a box! They range from 10 to 14 years old, incredibly shy to huge personalities, and absolutely no background in theatre to access to drama classes since early elementary. A few things about them that they share as a group though are passion, 100% free lunch, and a shared experience as majority fluent or emerging bilinguals.

In our drama class, students are introduced to an art form many others their age do not have access to, and I'm so proud to expand their horizons and grow their confidence.

In debate, we focus on critical thinking skills and learning how to make your voice heard in effective ways.

My students are at a very difficult age. They're starting to figure out who they are, what they want, and what their place is in this world. For many of them, this is coupled with self-doubt and anxiety. My mission is to give them the tools and the stage to work through those troubles and emerge as self-assured adolescents ready to take on the future.

My Project

Over the course of this school year, we have found ourselves missing some items that would make a lot of difference in our daily lives in the classroom, so we're currently asking for a mish-mash of different supplies.

Each of these items would make our classroom run smoother and stay organized so students can put their entire focus on learning and creating.

The three-hole punch would make scripts and journal work a breeze to maintain. Ziploc baggies would help keep stage makeup, small props, set design blocks, and various office supplies organized and easy to find. The drill will make a world of difference in set construction and repairing our actor blocks. Finally, the vinyl wall decor would be placed in the hallway, as students are often lost and confused looking for the drama room when classes switch each quarter.
