Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach at the tip of Texas, bordering Mexico, where my students speak Spanglish. They face many challenges such as dyslexia, special needs, and are socioeconomically disadvantaged, but that doesn't stop them from dreaming big.

They are determined, hard-working children, willing to learn no matter their circumstances.

I teach second-grade bilingual students who inspire me daily. These students come every day excited to start class. They enjoy hands-on activities, crafts, group activities, and especially working with technology. They face many challenges, but they don't let these challenges take over their learning experience.

Many students are economically disadvantaged. Many come without knowing English, but with their determination and support from their families, they can conquer everything. However, none of those factors affect these children because they want to learn. It is very satisfying seeing all these children progress throughout the school year.

I work at a very supportive school where students come first. We are all about meeting their needs. Our administrators have created a safe, happy environment for everyone: students, staff, teachers, and parents. I love working at the very tip of Texas, where my students are unique and wonderful.

My Project

My students are super excited to study about space and rockets, especially because our hometown in Brownsville, TX, is the launching site of SPACE X. This is a great opportunity to nurture their curiosity with a real-life experience and the possibility of touring the facility one day and inspiring them to pursue a field in STEAM.

I want them to research space, especially Mars, and design posters with their iPad stylus about what they learn using this PeriPage Thermal Pinter on the go and then use their creations in their financial literacy program.

Students would be using their iPads and iPad stylus to design a rover and then print it out to display around school. These will be used in their classroom economy projects to learn financial literacy. All items created will be placed in a weekly auction to promote financial literacy. Not only will my students learn about space, but our whole school community will learn about it through my students' work. This would be a great way to motivate my students and others to be creative and learn more about Space!
