My students need a rug, welcome to class poster, frames accents, colors and numbers posters, class rules and fire safety charts, Hispanic and African American charts, etc.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
"There's No Place Like Home" a famous line from a movie loved by all children. Dorothy wanted to go home because it was a place she felt loved and comfortable being there.
I teach in East New York a high poverty section of Brooklyn N.Y.
I too want to give my students a feeling of home when they enter my classroom. But the funds are not available to make this happen. I have young students who look at their environment to determine if they want to be there. So with you help not only will they want to be there but come away stepping further into a good education.
My Project
These resources will be used to improve the appearance of the classroom. The classroom is in an over 100 year old building so the physical appearance of the building can not be changed. But with the right resources I can enhance the classroom itself. Adding a rug and the colorful decorations will make the classroom a warm and inviting place to learn. This will make the students feel at home and have a desire to be there.
Your first impression of a place is what it looks like.
So I am asking you to help me give my students an environment that feels like home, so they too can say that line with feelings -"There is no place like home.
