Help me give my students a glimpse into the struggle of the civil rights era from the perspective of a same age student, in the same stage of education as they are, with this novel.

My Project

With the annual acknowledgment of Black History Month rapidly approaching, I hope to receive a class set of the novel, “Warriors Don’t Cry”. This book tells the story of the Little Rock Nine from the perspective of young, Melba Patillo Beals, one of the nine students who bravely pushed our nation forward with its efforts toward desegregation.

This retelling of events will help my students learn about a critical time in our nation’s history, while also reading grade level content area literature.

Real life stories told by a person their same age offers a unique experience for students who struggle with remaining engaged while learning complex issues.
