My Project
Hanif Abdurraquib's celebrated new book "There's Always This Year" speaks to what success is and what it means to make it out of a place that you love. His prose is beautiful, yet approachable and perfect for a classroom like mine: one in an alternative high school from which students are constantly talking about trying to get out of, but discussing the seeming impossibility of that task and their love of the teachers, staff, and students in that place.
Abdurraquib's book provides an opportunity for my students to see themselves, their interests, and their experiences reflected in a piece of literature.
I want to give them the opportunity to study this book and reflect on what success is.
