My Students

Do you remember the first day of kindergarten? Our students come to school with a positive attitude and are excited to learn. They are creative artists, thinkers, scientists, and they are getting ready to become readers and writers. They come from diverse backgrounds and speak various home languages.

My students attend an elementary school in an underserved community.

We have many English Language Learners from various language backgrounds that require specialized English language instruction each day in addition to their typical classwork. Some students do not have consistent or concrete learning opportunities outside of school, and their kindergarten year is often their first experience with literacy and learning.

My Project

The Insect Discovery Lab is a hands-on exploration of the fantastic lives of beetles, millipedes, tarantulas, walking sticks, whip scorpions and more! Their presenters will introduce our kinders and 4th graders to the extraordinarily diverse world of insects and other arthropods and teach our students about their key role in the web of life. Scientific observation, insect identification, and the natural history of bugs’ lives are just some of the areas they teach.

Help our students foster a love of nature by learning about Australian Walking Sticks, Madagascar Hissing Cockroaches, and other insects and arthropods.

They will learn about the creatures but also the need for protecting the environments in which they reside.
