My Students

Do you remember how frustrating it was as a girl learning to read when you couldn't find a book with a girl as the main character?

My students are 28 third graders in a large urban district in Ohio.

They come from a variety of ethnic and economic backgrounds. As diverse as they all are, they have one thing in common: They LOVE to read. Our school promotes a culture of learning and especially one of learning to love reading.

My Project

My students, especially my girls, need to have good, quality literature with females in the central role. The books I am requesting will help all of my students realize that girls can be just as smart, cunning, and adventurous as the boys they have been reading about all of their lives.

I would LOVE to have this project funded and in my classroom by March, National Women's History Month but I need your help!

This project will have a tremendous impact on my students and how they view girls in their every day life and in history.
