There's a Cricut in the Classroom!

My Students

My students have special needs with mild mental disabilities. I see my students for Math and Language Arts - 2 hours a day. They are all behind grade level and need very individualized curriculum. They are sweet and cope well to mask their disabilities but their ability levels are significantly delayed.

Since they are battling mild mental disabilities, Autism, ADHD, and sensory processing disorders, my students benefit from hands-on objects made of different materials that give adequate sensory feedback.

My students are the sweet, most loving kids who try their hardest despite their setbacks. They are so excited with each new toy I introduce into my classroom. It truely motivates them to work harder.

My Project

My request is for a Cricut machine to use in my classroom for several purposes. The Cricut can be used to cut out 2D and 3D shapes to help with volume and area in math class. I would also like to use the Cricut to create word walls with common vocabulary words. My students use my classroom as a calming space and the Cricut will allow me to create neat letters/words on my walls rather than messy handwritten posters hanging everywhere. My students also love to showcase their work on my hallway bulletin board and would love being able to use the Cricut to cut out shapes and pictures to decorate the board. My students struggle with cursive writing and since signing their name is a life skill, I would like to cut out their names with the Cricut using different materials (felt, leather, vinyl, etc.) and have them trace each letter with their fingers to incorporate sensory feedback as well.

A Cricut machine would greatly decrease the amount of time I spend prepping, allow me to focus on teaching, showcase my students' work, and give my kids the excitement of having hands-on math manipulatives when teaching things like cursive and geometry!
