My Students
"Always try to be a little kinder than is necessary.”-J M Barrie.
My students constantly seek ways to set goals and improve their mathematical thinking.
Distance learning has made hands-on mathematics, mental math, and math in general quite challenging. My class has a goal of improving their geometry and number and operations skills. The students in my class strive to make the world a better place. I'd like to make their classroom a better place for learning math!
Research shows the significant impact that math games can have on learning outcomes. The math games in this project will help transform our classroom culture into a more fun, playful, curiosity-filling type of pedagogy. This type of learning environment will have a positive effect on social-emotional well-being as well as on academic learning for my elementary students.
My Project
Having manipulatives to help teach math can positively affect student learning. This is true for students at all levels and of all abilities. It is also true for almost every topic covered in elementary school mathematics curricula. Math manipulatives such as the games in the project are objects to think mathematically with. Incorporating these manipulatives and games into our daily mathematics lessons will help students grasp concepts with greater ease, making teaching most effective. My students will have a new classroom space filled with free choice, and a variety of math games to play every day of the week!
