This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

When students come to the counseling office or the counseling classroom, they are often upset and overstimulated. This project is requesting items for the counseling room that will help students regulate and return to class.

Counseling has become even more important in the time of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Students are stressed and worried among a mix of other emotions. I strive to create a space where they feel safe, calm, and supported. These 'odds and ends" include tapestry signs about their feelings, sense of control, and boundaries. I have added sensory materials to help regulate emotions such as lights, kinetic sand, and essential oils to develop meaningful and impactful counseling lessons. I also included Kimochis. These items will help me meet the ever-growing needs of my students by providing resources for them to calm down and regulate so they can finish their day at school strong.
