Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My school is a K – 8 grade public district with a very high immigrant population and a Title I school in Illinois where ninety-eight percent of students speak Spanish as their primary language. All of my students qualify for free breakfast and lunch and come from low-income households. The classroom setting is a low incident cluster program including 6th - 8th grade students with special needs and English Language Learners. Differentiation is needed on a daily basic to meet their needs in reading, writing, and social emotional.

My students are individuals with significant cognitive disabilities, intellectual and autistic.

Their positive energy and confidence is my inspiration and motivation to continue my career in special education. Our goal is to have our children as comfortable and challenged physically as well as mentally.

We would like to accomplish this by setting up a sensory classroom which would stimulate all senses. Therefore welcoming students growth in all areas. We would like sensory tools to improve students focus and increase participation. This would enhance students learning.

My Project

The sensory material will keep all of the students engaged and participating through out their school day. This allows students to have a place where they can feel safe and comfortable.

Creating the Therapeutic Sensory Island will stimulate students through their senses and develop coordination.

The students will be able to choose activities based on their preferences such as Sensa Rock, pool pit with colored balls, and gel-exercise mats, and Lego table.

The Therapeutic Sensory Island will benefit the diverse needs of our learners by enhancing social skills, communication skills, and interpersonal skills. The Island would be a exciting and educational area of the classroom.
