Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I work with a caring and hardworking group of kindergartners. Almost all of my students are English Language Learners, and most of them live below the poverty line. Over 90% of my students qualifying for free and reduced lunch because of their family financial situation.
Our school has adopted a "No Excuses!" motto and we believe all students have the ability to succeed.
We are working to provide students with all the materials necessary to achieve in school and meet and surpass state standards. This starts in kindergarten! My students are busy learning to read and write and appreciate and understand all types of literature.
My Project
The best way to develop strong writers is to expose them to quality literature. The best way to motivate them to read is to share books they will love and appreciate. The strongest way to teach the students about elements of a story and comparing and contrasting is through different versions of similar tales, such as the Gingerbread Man and Stone Soup. The kids love these stories, they are connected to our themes and holidays, and they're books the kids appreciate and enjoy.
With your support, my students can be provided with theme related books that will meet their needs and motivate them to continue fine-tuning their skills.
