Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Do you remember what it was like to finish your work early and just sit at your desk... bored out of your mind? You will help engage little 1st graders.
I have a classroom of 26 students.
The majority are English Language Learners who receive free or reduced lunch. They come from homes where both parents work. Some are latch key kids or spend a lot of time with babysitters. My students love learning but do not always have access to materials that encourage them to learn at their full capacity. I have a couple students who attend speech class and 2 students who attend our Learning Center for a portion of the day.
My Project
The Thematic Unit Kit helps build essential skills. Each center focuses on a different theme, with 3 activities that span 3 major curriculum areas- language, math and science. For each activity, we get enough materials for 4 students to work at once... plus simple, illustrated instructions that students can follow independently. All 8 centers come ready to use. The 8 centers are Healthy Foods, My Neighborhood, All About Seasons, Bugs, Plants, On the Farm, My family and Me and In the Ocean. I would use these for students who finish their work early or when I am working with small groups.
