First graders still need to have some fun while learning. I love to do thematic themes weekly to keep things fresh and engaging. The idea behind the centers stays the same but the manipulatives that they use change and therefor make learning new.
Weekly or biweekly to change things up I change manipulatives to keep kiddos engaged.
Skills progress throughout the year but thematic units keep even the most reluctant learners engaged in learning. Thematic units also provide some continuity between math and literacy centers. These centers are hands on and loved by my current students, I just don't have the supplies to provide different manipulatives for every theme.
