Thematic Learning In Preschool!

My Students

My students are 3, 4, and 5-year-olds who are, in most cases, in their first school setting. Because we are a Head Start classroom, we are preparing students who may have just turned three, all the way through students who will soon be entering Kindergarten. My classroom is also an Early Childhood Special Education classroom, with children who may need some extra support or modeling. All this means we have a very diverse group of learners, all with varying abilities and needs.

My school is located in an urban setting, with many families struggling with poverty.

For many of my students, my classroom is the only place where they can interact with engaging and educational toys and materials. We use them to turn learning into something that they look forward to and hopefully set the stage for a positive outlook on education for years to come.

Despite some of the struggles my students deal with, they all deserve a wonderful welcome to their education, and materials to help spark their interest in school and all it has to offer. They are all capable of wonderful things and deserve the tools to do so.

My Project

These materials will help our thematic studies come to life! We will explore themes like pets, clothing, wheels, and exercise this year and make education during a pandemic as engaging as possible. We will play veterinarian, talk about dressing for the weather and cleaning our clothes, what wheels do, and how to stay healthy with exercise. These materials will help us go above and beyond what our curriculum provides as learning experiences and we hope to use these resources for years to come, making our classroom a rich environment for learning!
