Mr. Hearn from Memphis TN is requesting books through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need 65 copies of Zora Neale Hurston's "Their Eyes Were Watching God".
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
All students deserve great books to read. My students have their heads buried in books at every opportunity, but they don't always have the resources to do so. Help my students receive Hurston's classic novel, "Their Eyes Were Watching God," a book that will surely capture their imaginations!
My students are motivated, determined, disciplined, and creative young people who are excited about going to college.
Their families have enrolled them in a charter school because they believe in giving them the best education possible. They love to read (anything from Langston Hughes to Shakespeare to Sherman Alexie to Sue Monk Kidd) and write creatively. They are a pleasure to teach on a daily basis; I learn from them--just as they learn from me--every day.
By reading Hurston's classic novel "Their Eyes Were Watching God," students will be introduced to not only of the best writers of twentieth-century African-American literature, but to one of the best American authors of all-time. Students will gain background knowledge about Hurston and the Harlem Renaissance. In addition to learning about the dynamic historical context of the novel, students will engage in a meaningful literacy experience. We will explore Hurston's use of metonymy, the personification of Death and Doubt, and the gender roles depicted in the novel.
After reading Hurston's novel, my students will be better readers, writers, and people.
Please help my students receive this amazing book. You will be making a difference in their lives and their futures. My students are so excited about going to college. Helping them receive this book will help them develop the skills necessary to succeed in college and in life.
