it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Our school is a Dual Language School in Upper Manhattan that serves students in Washington Heights and Inwood. This is the second year of theatre at our growing school. I teach theatre for kindergarten through 4th grade, and 5th grade next year as we continue to expand!
I want to transform our theatre classroom into a space where students can expand their imagination and visit different settings during rehearsal, performance, and imaginative play.
Our theatre tools are voice, body, and imagination. Theatre cubes can be chairs, beds, thrones, mountains, whatever the students want them to be! These are the building blocks for creating opportunities for students to make staging choices. As we continue to learn about staging, set design, and performance, these rehearsal cubes provide the chance for students to transform the classroom into a theatrical space.
Heading into school performances, these cubes can also help to create levels and exciting staging choices for shows in our cafeteria stage. We have a small performance space and these cubes can help expand what is possible onstage in this year's production of Frozen KIDS!
