Composing is fun, even for the little ones! I teach music to 1st through 5th grade students in a title 1 elementary school in South Carolina. We need your help in providing composing resources and instruments.
I need a way to guide the younger students into composing music. They have a difficult time with writing the notes onto paper. They love to be creative and compose their own music. In a 40 minute class however, there is not enough time for each of these younger students to actually write all of the notes out individually. Additionally, my special education students hardly have any fine motors skills at all. This make writing extremely difficult for them.
If I give each of my students a few cards with rhythms already on them that is half the battle. They can take turns putting the cards in the pocket chart and be composing instantly! We can play their rhythms on instruments, mix the rhythms up, create multiple part songs, create songs in different forms, etc. Their faces light up when they know they have created something of their very own.
Your donation will make music more exciting for my students because they will be composing and performing these compositions for each other in class. They will progress faster and we will be able to explore more advanced composing in subsequent years. I will be able to use these materials with all 19 of my music classes. That's right, 19 classes! That means your donation will help over 400 students each year. Over a few short years, you will be impacting THOUSANDS OF STUDENTS!!!
